What is Reputation?

Concept of the DayWhat is Reputation?

Date:

Reputation means the name or status of a person or thing or company. Reputation is the belief or opinion formed by others about someone or something. Reputation is a widespread belief or faith about someone or something having a particular feature or characteristic. For example, when Hemant was given the job of a translator despite his lacking skills in translation, his boss was quite confident. When the manager asked the boss how Hemant will complete his given job considering he lacks the required translation skills, the boss said that he is quite sincere in his work and will learn the skills on the job itself.

Hemant’s reputation of working sincerely and completing whatever job given to him helped him have that job in the company despite other competent candidates. Another example of a bad reputation is when many well-known names came into the spotlight for being accused of the MeToo movement. Now when Sajid Khan, the Bollywood producer, and filmmaker entered the Bigg Boss 16 house, there were several celebrities who openly expressed their displeasure with him being a contestant. It is because his reputation has been tarnished by several women who named him in the MeToo movement for not behaving with women properly.

When a company was running in profits, everyone trusted the company well. But when the company lost its profit-making model, it started removing employees from the workplace and also shutting down several branches. This earned the company a bad reputation in the industry. Reputation is a very delicate matter, one spends his life earning goodwill but when someone attacks them or gives them a bad name, their reputation gets hampered, thus making them lose out a job or a standing in society.

One needs to have a reputation to get a job or have a good name in society. For example, the reputation of a good doctor was destroyed when he was caught not treating a patient properly and instead, stealing money from them. The hotels that are located in remote locations do not have a good reputation. An employee earned a good reputation as a perfect speaker in the organization which made him get invitations to speak even at company events that were held all over the world.

Reputation is a general characteristic of someone or something. For example, toothpaste has a reputation for cleaning teeth and keeping teeth germ-free, thus it attracts sales all over the year. Also, a reputation has to be built by winning the trust and confidence of several customers. Customers need the product or service to have good quality as well as a good reputation in the market.

For example, when a child had to be enrolled in a primary school, his parents consulted several parents to know which school has a good reputation in the locality. It is because they didn’t want their child’s future to be spoiled by enrolling it in a top school that doesn’t promote traditional culture and good values. Thus, reputation and customer confidence go hand in hand.
