Concept of the DayWhat is Remarketing?

Date:

Have you checked out a website that you were reading for a few minutes and then the next day, do you find an advertisement on the same website while you are reading something else? Have you recently been to Amazon to check out the cost of certain products or books and instead of buying them, you decided to opt-out? Then the next day, do you find an online display advertising on the sidebar of another website asking you to buy the product? Well, congratulations as you have been retargeted.

Retargeting, which is also called remarketing, is a famous type of digital or online marketing. It is where marketers provide advertisements to users who have earlier visited their website or a particular web page but have not completed taking any action. It is a good way to target people who have already shown some sort of interest in your brand or business. As you are targeting past visitors or already existing users, it is called remarketing. It is like a second chance for a brand to convince you to buy their product or service through their online advertising campaigns. Remarketing can be done in various ways and on multiple ad platforms such as Google ads, Facebook ads, Outbrain, etc. Remarketing is one of the MUST strategies in every company’s campaign.

So, are you wondering how are the websites able to get through to you? Well, it is through the cookies that the website collects when you visit them. Remarketing is a way to collect information about potential users so that they can be sent sales emails. Remarketing or retargeting, whatever you call it, is one of the most effective forms of digital marketing.

Nowadays, digital marketing and remarketing are all about keeping the customers engaged and providing them with the best services online. Online marketers are constantly looking for ways to understand the mindset of their customers and provide them with the required and relevant products or services.

I will tell you an example to make you understand the same. I was doing jewelry shopping before my marriage on Amazon. Interestingly, I searched for a couple of imitation jewelry on Amazon that I liked and even added to the cart but when it came to checking out of the cart, I didn’t purchase the jewelry item. The very next day when I was reading a couple of news on an entertainment website, I came across the image of the same jewelry that I had added to my cart but didn’t make the purchase decision. But the image was in the form of a display ad that the entertainment website was running in its ad network.

Probably the image of this jewelry came because I had cleaned up my search history last night. I realized that even if the history was cleaned up, some websites do capture our browsing history in the form of their cookies in order to understand what we are looking for or searching for on the internet. This way I understood that I was retargeted by the jewelry store by reminding me to buy the product that had my interest.
