“Why are you doing it so slowly? Hurry up fast, I need to catch the local train on time,” said Yuvi to the cobbler who was polishing his shoes on the local train platform. As Yuvi was looking at the indicator where upcoming train timings were getting displayed, the cobbler smiled at him and said, “Not everything is destined to be done in haste or hurry, saab. At times, you have to wait or pause, think in-depth and work accordingly”. Yuvi didn’t pay attention to what the cobbler said, paid him the money, and rushed to the platform where the train had just arrived.
Yuvi went onto the train and started his WhatsApp messages. He got a missed voice message on his WhatsApp chat with his immediate superior who told him to call the client as soon as he reaches the office. Yuvi was running late as the train was too slow due to the monsoons. Yuvi called his junior and told him to call the client and inform him about the recent developments.

As soon as he cut the call with his junior, Yuvi called his immediate superior and told the client would be informed before he reaches the office because he was running late. Yuvi’s superior told him to cancel the client call as the plans have changed completely. Yuvi got disturbed because he was working rigorously to manage the reputation of his organization in front of the client. However, Yuvi’s immediate superior’s haste decisions were making him crazy.
Yuvi personally called the client and apologized for the error in reporting the required information. Yuvi, in fact, told the same lines that he got to hear from the cobbler but didn’t react and that is: “not to act in hurry and he regrets on behalf of his management to take decisions without in-depth information and thinking”. Yuvi realized that such wise words from the cobbler hold so much true in real-life decisions. Although the cobbler earned a small living he had that unique sense that even his educated and well-qualified professionals lacked.
Hurry is that state of mind when we act on impulse without thinking much about the future consequences. Hurry can create chaos in anyone’s life and thus, you might have heard from your forefathers and grandparents the wise lines that one should have immense patience and tolerance and not act in hurry at every phase in life. Certain situations demand us to act in hurry and even decide something immediately but even that hurried decision needs to be taken after a well-thought process and plan.
People who are always in hurry always feel that time is running fast but they are unable to fulfill their to-do list. However, hurrying at times can backfire if you like anything. For example, if you keep hurrying for things that need to be done only at your own pace and time, you will fall flat and lead a noman’s life. You cannot hurry a child to study too hard to score from 70% to 90% and that is an unrealistic expectation. Similarly, if you are hurrying to quit an organization due to creative and professional differences, wait, pause, relax and then take the decision only after thinking well about the pros and cons of the results of your decisions.
