New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed a stay on implementation of its new SMS regulations for 7 days, in view of the problem of users getting the required OTP for SMS and financial transactions. TRAI has taken this decision after receiving a complaint that OTP and SMS were having problems due to the new rules. TRAI has given another 7 days to all telecom companies to adopt the new framework. This rule of SMS Scrubbing has been introduced to curb suspicious commercial SMS, in which the users used to fall prey and fall prey to financial fraud.
In fact, due to the disruption in the SMS service, the SMS of banks, ecommerce and other companies was getting delayed for a long time. This problem was not everywhere in any one network or app, but everywhere. CoWIN registration OTP, bank OTP for debit card transactions and even system based two-factor authentication OTP were delayed. New regulations related to SMS have been implemented so that fraud can be prevented through SMS. But with the implementation of the new SMS regulation, many problems started coming up. Hence TRAI has suspended the new rule for 7 days.
The process of verification of every SMS content before sending it is called scrubbing. After its implementation, telecom operators blocked SMS messages without verification. However, after its implementation, the process of sending OTP for many payment services was interrupted. Banks started getting a lot of complaints from customers that they did not get OTP to transfer money. This affected customers across the country.
