Modi government decided to shut down HHEC

New Delhi: The Modi government has decided to close another government company, in a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, it has been decided to lock Handicrafts and Handlooms Export Corporation of India Limited (HHEC). This state-run company was in loss for a long time.

The cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the closure of Handicraft and Handlooms Corporation of India Limited (HHEC) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Textiles.

The corporation has 59 permanent employees and six management trainees. All permanent employees and management trainees will be given the opportunity to avail the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) as per the modalities prescribed by the Department of Public Enterprises.

According to a government statement, the corporation has been incurring losses since 2015-16 and is not earning sufficient income to meet its operating expenses. It was very unlikely to revive it, so it has become necessary to shut down the company.
