New Delhi: Recently there has been a major ransomware attack on the American IT company Kaseya. Kaseya’s corporate network and at least 1000 companies using its software were targeted in this cyber attack. The Russian cybercrime group Revil is suspected of carrying out this cyber attack.
This software company has provided its services to more than 40,000 business houses, out of which at least 1000 companies have become victims of this cyber attack. Researchers gave this information on Saturday. The ransomware attack forced Sweden’s largest supermarket chain Coupe to close over 800 of its stores because they were unable to access their accounts and checkouts.
Coupe put up signboards outside its stores to let customers know we had been hit by a major IT glitch. At the moment our systems are at a standstill. Researchers from cyber security company Huntress Labs are investigating the matter in collaboration with the companies targeted. The firm said that Swedish Railways and a large pharmacy chain have also been severely affected by this cyber attack.
While analyst Brett Callow of cyber security company Emsisoft said that the exact information about how many companies have become victims in this attack is not yet available. Experts said that in this ransomware attack, companies were locked in their systems through encryption and cybercriminals are demanding a huge ransom in exchange for opening it.
