Lockdown had no impact on agriculture sector: CM Yogi

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has pointed out that the pandemic had affected almost every sector contributing the economy except Agriculture which has seen a significant growth and contributed to the state as well national GDP.

He emphasized that the farmers and their welfare holds the most important place for the government and to assist them financially is an important objective of their government. Hence, all the sugar mills of the state continued to run following lockdown norms so that the cane farmers are not impacted.

The CM was addressing the farmers and industrialists of the sector through virtual platform at the CII Agro & Food Tech 2020 here on Friday.

He pointed out that 92 per cent of the farmers in the state are marginal farmers and there is a need to organize the sector to strengthen them financially. Taking a cue from this, the government has already issued the policy for FPOs and work to form FPOs at the block level itself is underway.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that through the One District One Product scheme, agricultural produce from various districts is being promoted under which the Kala Namak variety of rice has a registered GI tag now. He congratulated CII for putting together this initiative and said that he was confident that a large number of farmers would be able to benefit out of it. He also urged the entrepreneurs in the sector to come forward and set up processing units in the state which is naturally so endowed.
