Date:

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that candidates who are getting recruited for jobs and being deployed to other states depending on their job profile should be willing to learn the local languages of the states. This will help them serve better and prosper in their jobs and careers.

Sitharaman who was present at the Rozgar Mela event handed over joining orders to candidates who were successful in their job rounds. She also motivated more candidates to apply for jobs in public sector undertakings – PSUs in Tamil Nadu.

Quoting the central government’s initiative Rozgar Mela, the Finance Minister said the government has been organizing the same from October 2022 and approximately 10 lakh candidates have been given job offers to date.

“Today 51,000 appointment orders are being given across the country by Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) virtually. I was told 553 people are getting job offers from Tamil Nadu,” Nirmala Sitharaman said at the event.

She also mentioned that the candidates can enhance their service skills after getting recruited by a public sector undertaking or bank. She said by giving an example of a bank employee who when interacting with customers on a regular basis has to learn the local language so that he or she can provide improved services for the people.

She further added to make things easier to understand for the candidates. “For example, if a candidate has been placed in Karnataka he should learn Kannada. if he is posted in Tamil Nadu, then he should learn Tamil, Due to lack of (knowledge of) local language by candidates, there is a laxity in the service rendered”.

The offer letters were given to both gazetted officers and non-gazetted officers. She said that not many people from Tamil Nadu actually apply for jobs in public sector undertakings. For example, if 300 people applied for 100 jobs in Tamil Nadu, one could shortlist at least 100 people from the state. But in the state, only 100 people apply for 100 positions, and only 60 or 70 candidates from the list get selected for the jobs. That’s why the remaining 30-40 posts are filled by candidates from other states.

She encouraged the youngsters of Tamil Nadu to apply for such government job positions so that they could get jobs in their own state. She asked more people from Tamil Nadu to take an interest in public sector undertakings’ job positions in the state.

Local languages have been gaining traction since the recent many years. It is because in many speeches of Modi ji, vocal for local has been promoted. Not just that, many companies these days are respecting the regional differences of India and that’s why they are coming up with products customized to the local requirements. Local languages can be learned from tutors or online coaches who can teach the basic words and sentences to communicate in a better way. It will not only help to interact with customers and clients of that particular area but also help in building good relations.
