Auto Desk – EKA today announced that it’s 2.5-ton electric light commercial vehicle has received Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) certification from the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT).

The company is expected to start production of the vehicle at its Pune manufacturing plant this month. It is also said, that EKA becomes the first company to bring an electric pickup truck to the Indian market in the 2.5-ton light commercial vehicle category.

Sudhir Mehta, founder, and chairman, of EKA, said it is a truly monumental achievement by the whole team in a such short span of time. Also, he added that we are confident that our product will revolutionize the last-mile delivery segment and accelerate our nation’s transition to zero-emission vehicles.

The EKA president B Anil Baliga said that the light commercial vehicle segment is likely to reach close to 100,000 units over the next five years.
