New Delhi: All preparations have been completed for the assembly elections to be held on April 6 in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. In Bengal, there will be voting for 31 assembly seats for the third phase. Polling will be held in 40 assembly seats for the third and final phase in Assam.
The third phase of West Bengal assembly election is on Tuesday. In the third phase, voting will be held in 31 assembly seats in three districts of West Bengal – Howrah, Hooghly and South 24 Parganas. This includes seven seats in Howrah, eight in Hooghly and sixteen seats in South 24 Parganas. 205 candidates from various political parties are contesting.
Prominent candidates in this phase include Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee from Baruipur West of TMC, Soukat Molla from Canning East, Karbi Manna from Haripal, Dilip Yadav from Furfurasharif, Sujata Mandal Khan from Arambagh (SC), Swapan Dasgupta from Tarakeswar of BJP, Ulubediya Papia Adhikari from South, Tanushree Chakraborty from Shyampur and Deepak Haldar from Diamond Harbor and prominent candidates of United Front include former minister Kanti Ganguly from Raidighi, Subhash Naskar from Basanti etc.
Elections will also be held on April 6 for 232 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala and 30 seats in the union territory of Puducherry. All three states will have voting in one phase, while Bengal will have eight phases and Assam will have the third and last phase.
