Owaisi’s AIMIM denies rumors of an alliance with Samajwadi Party in UP

Lucknow: AIMIM has dismissed the rumors’ that it may form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Shaukat Ali, the head of AIMIM, in Uttar Pradesh, stated that they have never said that AIMIM has formed or will form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party.

Shaukat Ali, president of AIMIM Uttar Pradesh, said ANI, “We have never stated that AIMIM will form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party if Akhilesh Yadav appoints a Muslim man as deputy chief minister in the state if SP comes into the power in Uttar Pradesh. We absolutely deny these baseless reports, because neither I nor AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi gave these statements.”

Will Akhilesh repeat 2012 in the 2022 election?

“Although We do have said that the SP received 20% of Muslim votes in past elections and came to power, but they did not appoint a Muslim as deputy chief minister,” he stated.

Meanwhile, political circles in the state are abuzz that Asaduddin Owaisi reportedly stated on Saturday that if SP chief Akhilesh Yadav agrees to appoint any Muslim MLA as deputy chief minister in Uttar Pradesh, he is ready to form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party.

The Hyderabad MP had said that AIMIM will compete for 100 seats in the Uttar Pradesh elections scheduled for early next year.

Currently, there are 110 Assembly constituencies in which Muslim voters make up between 30 and 39 percent of the electorate in UP. This number rises to 40-49 percent in 44 seats, while it is about 50-65 percent in 11 seats.

However, AIMIM chief, Owaisi had previously visited Lucknow and have spoken to smaller political parties. He is also a member of the ‘Bhaagidari Sankalp Morcha.’

He is in contact with Shivpal Singh Yadav’s Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (PSP) too, Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), Keshav Dev Maurya’s Mahan Dal, and Krishna Patel’s Apna Dal.

In last assembly elections in 2017, AIMIM nominated candidates for 38 seats but failed to win a single seat. While they opted out and not fielded any candidate in Lok Sabha elections in 2019 in Uttar Pradesh, although Owaisi campaigned against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
