In view of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the BJP-led state government is looking to get the caste equation right, so as to strike a chord with the communities that matter, including Other Backward Castes (OBC).

Reportedly, the Yogi Adityanath-led government is prepping to include as many as 39 castes in the state OBC list ahead of the polls, namely Vaish, Jaiswar Rajput, Muslim Shah, Muslim Kayastha, Hindu Kayastha, Ruhela, Bhutia, Agrahari, Dosar, Hindu Bhaat, Goria, Bot, Panwaria, Umaria, Core Kshatriya Rajput, Dohar, Ayodhyawasi Vaish, Omar Bania, Mahour Vaish, Nowana,  Barnwal, Kamalapuri Vaish, Kesarwani Vaish, Bagwan, Bhatt, and the Muslim Bhat.

It is believed that the State Backward Classes Commission (SBCC) will soon make a recommendation concerning this matter. The was information was shared by Jaswant Saini, the sitting Chairman of SBCC.

Also, the commission will also conduct a survey to check the eligibility of some of the probable inclusions, including Vaish, Gulhare Vaish, Gadhaiya, Radhedi, Vishnoi, Khar Rajput, Porwal, Puruwar, Kunder Kharadi, Binoudhia Vaish, Honorable Pithbaj, etc.

Notably, as many as 24 probable communities have already been surveyed for eligibility and the remaining 15 will be surveyed within the next few days, the SBCC official informed.

Communities identified under the OBC category are entitled to certain reservations in government jobs and college admissions.

It is worth noting that the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the two outfits likely to give the ruling dispensation a run for its money, are also organising conferences in order to reach out to Brahmin voters.
