Assam: EVM recovered from BJP candidate’s car in Karimganj, Priyanka raised questions on Election Commission

New Delhi: The car in which an EVM was found in Assam, during the second phase polling on Thursday, belongs to BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul. Sharing a video of the incident, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi demanded the EC takes action.

According to Election Commission sources, the Bolero car of which a video was posted on social media, belongs to Krishnendu Paul, the BJP candidate from Patharkandi constituency in Assam.

According to the affidavit BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul filed with EC, the Bolero car with registration number AS10B0022 belongs to him.

On Thursday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra raised questions over the management of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in poll-bound states. Priyanka Gandhi tagged a video posted by a Guwahati-based journalist claiming EVMs were being transported in a private vehicle owned by a BJP candidate.

Priyanka Gandhi demanded the Election Commission to address the complaints and called for reevaluation of the use of EVMs. EC sources have said when the district election officials arrived at the spot, there was no polling officer, no Election Commission employee in or around the car.

The commission has sought a detailed report from the District Election Officer of DM, Karimganj, through the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam.

The Congress party raised serious questions over the use of EVMs and urged political parties to relook their use in polls. “The EC needs to start acting decisively on these complaints and a serious re-evaluation of the use of EVMs need to be carried out by all national parties,” tweeted Priyanka Gandhi.
