International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8 March. Expressing respect, admiration and love for women, International Women’s Day is celebrated as a celebration of women’s economic, political and social achievements. This day is also considered very important to make people aware of the society about women, to make women aware of their rights and to motivate them. For this reason, different themes are kept on Women’s Day every year.
Every year, Women’s Day is celebrated with different themes. This year, the theme of Women’s Day is “Choose To Challenge”. This means that women themselves are responsible for their thoughts and actions and they challenge the world every day. The theme further shows that women can challenge gender bias and inequality in the world. People need to celebrate the achievements of women and make the world a better place to live with equality.
International Women’s Day began in 1908 after a labor movement and in 1909, Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time in the US on 28 February. In fact, in New York, several thousand women had taken out a march to reduce the hours of work and raise the pay scale. Women got success in their movement and a year later the Socialist Party of America declared this day as National Women’s Day.
In fact, during the First World War in 1917, Russian women went on strike for bread and peace. The women had also refused to support their husbands’ demands during their strike and persuaded them to leave the war. After this, the emperor Nicholas had to leave his post and in the end women were also given the right to vote. The protest was carried out by Russian women on 28 February. In Europe, on March 8, women rallies to support peace activists. Although Women’s Day began in 1909, it was recognized in 1975 by the United Nations. After this, Women’s Day started being celebrated on 8 March in many countries around the world. International Women’s Day is celebrated with great pomp in India as well as abroad.
