New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government can give the Election Commission the power to add an Aadhaar card from the voter ID card.
In the meeting held on Tuesday, the Law Ministry agreed to the proposal of the Election Commission.
This exercise is being done to curb fake voters. According to media reports, on Tuesday there was a meeting between the Law Ministry and the Election Commission on issues such as paid news, incorrect electoral affidavits and election amendments.
In this meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra discussed the linking of Aadhaar with voter lists with Law Ministry Secretary G. Narayan Raju.
Explain that the Election Commission had recently proposed to the Law Ministry to amend the Representation of People Act. Under this, there is a provision to ask for the Aadhaar number from the people and new voters in the voter list.
According to reports, the Kannu ministry has agreed to secure the data on several levels, agreeing with the proposal of the Election Commission.
The Election Commission sent the proposal to the Law Ministry in August last year. The Election Commission had demanded a law right to link Aadhaar card and voter ID card.
Explain that after sitting in the fire, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also agreed to the proposal to link Aadhaar and Voter ID. At the same time, other political parties also agreed.

According to media reports, till now the Election Commission has linked the voter ID Aadhaar number of 38 crore people. The work was started in 2015 but later the exercise had to be stopped. The Supreme Court had said in a judgment that Aadhaar would only be used for taking LPG, kerosene and ration.
