As Rana did not find the accused, he picked up a resident of the same village and a distant relative of Ansari, Farad Hakim who he gave a third-degree method at the police station. When a large number of villagers rushed to the police station and created a ruckus outside it, the police released Hakim. One of the villagers made a video clip of torture meted out to Hakim and posted it on social media. Senior superintendent ordered a probe into the case and found Rana guilty of using a third-degree method against Hakim. The S-I has been suspended after the inquiry, SSP Vineet Jaiswal said, adding a departmental inquiry into the case will be conducted against Rana.
