Jail staff in Balrampur prison welcome inmate’s baby

Balrampur (UP): A baby was born to a female prisoner at Balrampur district jail in Uttar Pradesh. So, it was time to celebrate. The barracks meant for women prisoners were decked up with flowers and lights. Women prisoners and jail staff sang folk songs and danced to welcome the baby, prison officials said on Saturday. According to superintendent of jail Kundan Kumar, when inmate Maya Devi, a resident of Bihar, was lodged in the prison, she was in a family way.

The jail staff took care of her. Maya Devi gave birth to a child on August 9 under the supervision of medical officer Ratna Sen. A cradle, some toys and new clothes were presented to the new-born. Maya De was in tears. She said that she could never expect such a treatment in the jail.
