New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) said on Sunday that the election of its new president will be held on October 17 and counting of votes will be done on October 19. The filing of nominations will begin from September 24. The last date for it is September 30. Party president Sonia Gandhi who is abroad for medical check-up virtually presided over the meeting. The CWC meeting was held two days after senior leader and former Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from the party blaming Rahul Gandhi for the Congress’s defeat in 2014 elections. The party will notify the election on September 22.

The CWC also announced that the party would organise a “Mehangai Par Halla Bol rally” in New Delhi on September 4. The party will also launch Bharat Jodo Yatra from September 9.
