NationalSC to hear Uddhav’s plea over Shiv Sena issue on Aug 1

Date:

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has decided to hear on August 1 a fresh plea of the Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray group against the Election Commission’s proceedings on a petition filed by the Shinde faction of the Sena. The Shinde group pleaded that his faction should be recognised as the real Shiv Sena. Senior advocate, Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the Thackeray faction, pleaded to a bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli. Sibal pleaded before the apex court that the proceedings before the Election Commission should be stayed as it would impact the hearing of the case. Nevertheless, advocate NK Kaul, appearing on behalf of the Shinde faction, said that there are completely different issues.

He further said that one is concerned with the Speaker and the lordships are already dealing with the issues of disqualification, floor test and other related subjects.  But the poll panel is looking into the issues related to the intra-party affair, so it has nothing do with the disqualification, Kaul said.
