New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday night refused to intervene in the floor test issue and said that the state government led by Uddhav Thackeray will have to face it to prove its majority on Thursday.
Earlier, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari directed the Uddhav-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government to take a floor test. The government moved the Supreme Court against the Governor’s order, but the Apex Court refused to intervene in the matter.
The order came after a lengthy hearing on a plea by Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu challenging the Governor’s order. Earlier, during the hearing, the top court had observed that the floor of the House was the only way to settle these issues of democracy.

Senior lawyer Neeraj Kishan Kaul, appearing for rebel Sena leader Eknath Shinde, had argued before the top court that a floor test can never be delayed and that it was the only way to determine political accountability and avoid horse trading.
On the other hand, Shiv Sena counsel AM Singhvi called the direction of a floor test “unholy” and that it revealed “undue haste”. He said that those who had changed sides cannot hold the will of the people. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government on Wednesday cleared a proposal for renaming Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar and Osmanbad as Dharashiv.
