New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to consider listing a plea challenging the grant of remission by the Gujarat government to 11 life convicts in Bilkis Bano gang-rape case. The convicts were released under the Gujarat government’s remission policy on August 15 this year. The decision kicked up a row whether those who were convicted of such heinous crime as rape should be given remission.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice NV Ramana nd Justices Hima Kohli and CT Ravikumar listened to senior lawyers of the apex court Kapil Sibal and Aparna Bhat against the grant of remission to the convicts. The lawyers said that they were only challenging the remission and not the Supreme Court order.
