Christchurch: The batsmen failed to take advantage of the Indian bowlers’ good performance in the second Test but Jasprit Bumrah, the pioneer of fast bowling attack, does not want to blame anyone for this. Bumrah and Mohammed Shami together took seven wickets, leaving New Zealand team for 235 but India also lost six wickets for 90 runs in the second innings.
India are in danger of losing as their lead is still 97 runs. Defending the poor performance of the top-order batsmen, Bumrah said, “Look, we don’t want to blame anybody.” In our team culture we do not try to blame anyone. Someday if we do not get wickets as a bowling unit, then it does not entitle the batsmen to talk about us, is it not? ‘
The 26-year-old Bumrah said that he is confident in the abilities of Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari that they can put the opposing team in trouble on the third day. At the end of the second day’s play, Vihari is playing with five runs while Pant is on one run. Bumrah, who took three wickets for 62 runs in the first innings of New Zealand, said, “As a team we want to give a tough competition and perform well but the situation is in front of everyone.” We have two batsmen left and we will try to prolong the innings tomorrow. We can try and work hard and score as many runs as we can and then see what happens. ‘
