A tourist from the United States was allegedly raped at a homestay in Kodagu, police said on Wednesday.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the case. The main accused is a worker at the homestay, while the second accused is the owner of the property.
According to police, the incident took place inside the woman’s room at the homestay. Officials said the owner did not help the victim after the incident. Instead, he allegedly kept her confined for three days, took away her mobile phone and threatened her.
The incident happened about a week ago. The woman later travelled to Mysuru, where she contacted US authorities and reported the crime.
Based on information from the US Embassy, Karnataka Police registered a case and started an investigation.
Police officials confirmed that both accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody till May 3. Further investigation is ongoing.
