The Indian government has issued a strong warning to everyone using Mozilla Firefox. Many security holes have been discovered in Mozilla products, according to the latest report from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).

Per CERT-In, hackers might use these vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code, impersonate users, steal sensitive information without their consent or knowledge, and bypass security measures.

Firefox Users, Please Pay Attention!

According to the security organisation, these vulnerabilities impact all versions of Mozilla Firefox before the most current update, Firefox 98. Versions of Mozilla Firefox ESR and Thunderbird before 91.7 are also vulnerable to similar security flaws.

Numerous security flaws impacting Mozilla products were disclosed in the most recent alert by CERT-In. Some examples of these vulnerabilities are thread shutdown and use-after-free in-text reflows; a time-of-check time-of-use bug in add-on signature verification; a problem with managing the contents of an iframe that is sandboxed with allow-popups but not allow-scripts; browser engine memory safety issues; the download of temporary files to /tmp that other local users can access; side-channel attacks on the text; browser window spoofing using full-screen mode; and many more.

According to a CERT-In official statement, hackers could take advantage of the security holes by leading unsuspecting users to harmful websites or clicking on specially crafted links. If these vulnerabilities are exploited, a remote attacker might theoretically bypass security limitations, execute arbitrary code, spoof, access sensitive information, and conduct a denial of service attack on the targeted machine.

Impacted users are strongly encouraged by CERT-In to upgrade to the most recent versions of Mozilla Firefox (98, Firefox ESR91.7, and Thunderbird 91.7).

How can I update the version of Firefox that I’m using?

The steps to upgrade to the latest version are as follows:

  • You should first be able to see a menu button on the right-hand side of the Firefox toolbar.
  • Select “Help” from the main menu to proceed.
  • Launch Firefox and go to the About menu.
  • Then, Firefox will check for updates and, if found, will download them without user intervention.
  • After the download is complete, restart Firefox by clicking the Restart button.

In related news, Mozilla Firefox has launched three new extensions to the Android web browser. The end result will be an improved internet surfing experience and the simplification of some tasks for users. Thanks to an add-on, Firefox users can now conceal their email addresses when they create an account on some websites. One of these allows readers to listen to publications, while another one eliminates tracking components before sharing a URL. By using the “Firefox Relay,” users can mask their accurate email addresses. They may use it to hide further their identity, which is an extra security measure. If this were to occur, online businesses would be unable to get your email address and use it for marketing or any other reason.

As a result, if you haven’t already, upgrade Firefox immediately.
