Opposition unity may figure in discussion; Nitish meets Delhi CM

New Delhi/Kolkata: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is all set to visit Kolkata on Tuesday when he will hold a meeting with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee.

It is believed that both the chief ministers may discuss the opposition unity. Nevertheless, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) did not say anything about it.

As far as the issue of opposition unity goes, the TMC and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) kept away from the Congress, but things suddenly changed on Sunday morning when Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar called on Kejriwal at his residence along with his deputy Tejashwi Yadav.

Besides, Janata Dal (United) leaders Manoj Jha, Lalan Singh and Sanjay Jha accompanied Kumar.

Kumar supported Kejriwal opposing the Centre’s ordinance against the SC verdict on the powers of the Delhi government.

On Saturday, Kejriwal appealed to all opposition parties to stand by him against the Centre’s ordinance.

Therefore, Kejriwal’s Kolkata visit is considered important in terms of talks over opposition unity.

AAP sources confirmed that Kejriwal would visit Kolkata. It is, however, not known whether he will take part in any programme held by AAP.

The opposition parties began to talk about jointly fighting the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Kumar met top leaders of the Congress, Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.

There are indications that the opposition parties may hold a joint meeting in Patna.

The issue of opposition unity got momentum after the Congress’s victory in the Karnataka election.
