Bijnor: A 29-year-old man has poured kerosene on his wife and two minor children and set them afire at Moji Gopalpur under Kotwali Sahar police station in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said on Wednesday. All three of them – his wife Vandana (26), daughter (four) and son (two) – have sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
According to the superintendent of police, a case has been registered against the man identified as Arun Kumar and three of his family members, including two of his brothers and his mother under various sections of the Dowry Prevention Act. FIR was registered on the grounds of a complaint lodged by Vandana, the official said.
In the complaint, Vandana, who was married to Arun four years ago, said that her husband and his family members began to harass her for not bringing enough dowries immediately after her wedding. This caused marital disharmony. The official further said that an investigation was underway and the accused are absconding.
