The dam, being constructed at a cost of Rs 302 crore, is meant to provide irrigation water to 52 villages. The reservoir of the dam, being built for four years, was filled with water because of heavy rain, sources said. Meanwhile, president of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee Kamal Nath said that the dam had developed cracks because of corruption and poor-quality construction. He said that there was a volley of complaints about the irregularities in the construction from residents of the villages around the dam and from people’s representatives, but the government did not pay any heed to it. Nearly 40,000 people live in 18 villages.
