India became digital a long time ago and is proud of being one of the most powerful countries in the world, but superstition is still prevailing in remote corners of the country. On the heels of two incidents of human sacrifice in Kerala, another incident, in which a minor girl was killed in the name of human sacrifice in a village of Gujarat, has come to light. The police say her family members were responsible for it. They thought killing her in the name of God would bring prosperity to the family.
Gir Somnath (Gujarat)/Thiruvananthapuram: At a time when a human sacrifice case in Kerala has rocked the nation, another such incident has been reported from Gir Somnath district in Gujarat. A 14-year-old had been murdered in the name of human sacrifice at Dhara Gir village in the district, the police said on Thursday, adding that her family members were behind the gruesome act.
The police plunged into action after a few villagers informed them about the incident. A team of the forensic science laboratory also visited the site to collect evidence. The villagers said that the girl had been murdered on October 3 when Navratri Atham was celebrated. It was done to gain financial benefits. Her death was registered with the village Panchayat. The girl’s kin cremated her body in their farm house at midnight, the villagers said.
According to superintendent of police Manoharsinh Jadeja, the needle of doubt points at her parents. The police collected her ashes from the farmhouse of Bhavesh Akabari on Wednesday. When the police questioned him, Akabari changed his statements many times, the official said.
The girl was a student of a school in Surat where Akabari owns a business. Nevertheless, her parents took leaving certificate from the school and brought her to the native village. The Akabaris kept her in the farmhouse.
The villagers also said that the relatives of the girl were under the impression that she would come back to life after being sacrificed and bring prosperity to the family. The police began an inquiry into the case.
A similar incident was reported from Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala where two women were sacrificed as part of black magic. The police arrested three people including a couple in connection with the incident.
