New Delhi: Over 1, 957 new coronavirus cases were reported from different parts of the country on Tuesday, sources in the Union Health Ministry said. The total tally of covid-19 cases shot up to 4, 46, 16, 394, and the active cases declined to 27, 374.
The number of people who died of the disease rose to 5, 28, 822. Eight people, including three from Kerala, died of the disease in the past 24 hours, health officials said, adding that the active cases comprised 0.06 per cent of the total infections. The five deaths reported in the past 24 hours include one each from Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal.
The recovery rate shot up to 98.75 per cent. The officials further said that the daily positivity rate had been recorded at 0.71 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.21 per cent. The number of people recovering from the disease went up to 4, 40, 60, 198, and the fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.
The number of people afflicted with the disease on August 7, 2020 crossed 20 lakh on August 7. It was 30lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16, and, till December 30, the number of cases shot up to one crore. On June 23 last year, it crossed four crore mark.
