Did you know the renowned politician Late Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav was once a teacher?
Prior to joining the world of politics, Late Mulayam Singh Yadav used to be a teacher at Jain Inter College in Karhal, Mainpuri. His teaching journey began in the year 1963 shortly after the completion of his graduation from KK College and teaching course. He began working as an assistant teacher at the same institute where he had completed his studies. After completing his master’s degree in political science, he got promoted as a lecturer with a salary of Rs 120 per month. On Monday, many of his students shared some fun filled memories , as they say, one may forget what you said, but one can never forget how you made them feel!
Bhagwan Singh, one of Yadav’s close students between the years 1963 and 1966 shared a memory and said, “Sir used to teach us social sciences. His teaching style was unique and he often tried giving relevant and relatable examples of things to make us understand the subject better. Even though he was a well-regarded wrestler, there was never such an incident when he behaved harshly with any student. He was loved and respected by all his students.”
Another student of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Triloknath Shakya, who is also a retired teacher from the same institute, said, “Yadav sir had an indepth knowledge about history and often narrated the stories of Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi to us. Even after becoming the CM and reaching a peak of his career, he never ignored or forgot his students and remembered most of us by our names.”
