Amethi: A trainee pilot had a close shave on Monday when his light aircraft crash-landed in farmland in Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh. The crash landing damaged the fuselage of the aircraft, sources said. A trainee pilot Abhay Patel was flying an aircraft of the Central Government’s Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy (IGRUA). No sooner had Patel sensed that his aircraft developed some technical snags than he made an emergency landing in farmland near Kairana village in Amethi.

The trainee pilot who was on a solo sortie was evacuated from the aircraft after its emergency landing. Security officer at the academy, Narendra Yadav, told reporters that the trainee pilot was forced to land it. The emergency landing caused  damages to the aircraft but the trainee pilot was safe, Yadav said.

Media in charge of IGRUA RK Dwivedi said that the plane, a four-seater Diamond DA 40, was damaged because of emergency landing. The Director General of Civil Aviation began to probe the incident, but the real cause of crash landing was yet to be ascertained.
