Lucknow (UP): Ten people died after a tractor-trolley in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a pond in Itaunja area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, the police said. The tractor-trolley was carrying 47 people. A team of the State Disaster Rescue Fund (SDRF) rushed to the spot to assist the police.
According to sources, 47 people, all residents of Attaria area in Sitapur district, were on their way to Unnai Devi temple in Itaunja for the head tonsure ceremony of a child (Mundan Samskara) on the occasion of Navratri. No sooner had the vehicle fallen into the pond a few villagers rushed to spot and brought out several people trapped in the vehicle. They sent the injured to a nearby hospital, but those who died in the accident were yet to be identified, the police further said. According to a senior official of the district administration, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to next of kin of each decedent.
