How to manage the children’s stress levels

LifestyleHow to manage the children's stress levels

Date:

When the pandemic had hit the country, schools and colleges were shut down for a long period of time. Children had to stay back at home and face the uncertainty of their future careers and adapt to online classes and even exams too. It has been more than two years that children are facing this anxiety over their studies. As parents, it is your responsibility to help them overcome the worries and stress levels that come with the changes in their academic syllabus and study mode.

1) Tell them you are there with them:

More or less, children feel left alone when they are asked to look at the monitors of the laptop or computers and study whatever is being taught to them. They don’t have friends near to them whom they can rely on or ask about their doubts because of their shyness to stop the teacher while teaching and solve their doubts. You need to tell them that you are there for them to share whatever is bothering them regarding their studies. Although you may not know a lot of things, your assurance that you will solve their doubts will itself provide them with the needed relief.

2) Tell them you are concerned about them and not marks:

Your child may not be able to score the way they used to during their physical class exams. A hybrid or online learning model may not give them that satisfaction in learning because it is a totally new concept that they are also learning. So, you need to tell them to focus on whatever they understand and not get demotivated even if they score less compared to their previous exams. Your support will help them study well and also feel good that they have their parent’s backing and understanding no matter what.

3) Tell them to focus on quality learning:

If your child says that he or she doesn’t understand the e-books or video learning, you can give them the needed books to clear their concepts. You can even opt to enroll them in tuition classes if the hybrid learning model is creating some sort of stress in your child. You don’t have to be a typical parent who is always stressed about their child’s marks or future. You can be a different individual and set an example for your child by showing your flexibility in completing the program or course.

4) Encourage your child to also involve in some offline play:

As the screentime has increased for children, as responsible parents you can involve them in some plays or games that can be done in offline mode. It will improve their creative thinking skills and also help them to learn different types of games that can be played without the support of technology. You can introduce them to chess or carrom or some household chores that may interest them and also involve them in physical activity at home itself. Be an empathetic listener when the need arises as that is what the children of today’s times need.
