Ayodhya: A list of 40 illegal colonisers released by the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) contains the names of local legislator of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ved Prakash Gupta, a former law-maker of the party Gorakhnath and Mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay, official sources said on Monday. The list also consists of the names Sultan Ansari and his father Nanhe Mian who made Rs 18 crore from the land worth Rs 2 crore.

Sources in ADA said that several seers were involved in the illegal sale of land in Ayodhya. After the Supreme Court passed the verdict on Ram temple in Ayodhya, many people began to build illegal colonies. The case kicked up a major controversy when a Member of Parliament of the BJP dashed off a letter seeking a probe by the Special Investigation Team into setting up illegal colonies. A senior official of ADA said that an investigation into the matter has begun and the defaulters would face action.
