Lucknow: A cabinet minister of Uttar Pradesh government Rakesh Sachan, who surrendered before a court on Monday, was sentenced two year’s imprisonment and asked to pay Rs 1,500 as fine. The court granted him bail on a bond of Rs 50,000, sources said.

After being convicted in connection with the Arms Act case lodged against him on August 13, 1991, he disappeared from the court with a copy of the order on Sunday. A reader of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate’s court, Kamini, lodged a complaint with the police that Sachan had run away with the file related to the case. The minister said the case against him was false.
