Patna: As the chasm between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal-United (JD-U) is widening, speculations are rife that there may be a split between the two parties, sources said on Monday.  The JD (U) and the BJP have formed a government in Bihar under the leadership of Kumar. Against this backdrop, Kumar has called a meeting of the party MPs and MLAs on Tuesday, asking them to be present in it.

There are reports that Kumar is planning to form a government with the help of the JD (U), the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led by Tejswi Yadav, the Left Front and Congress. Sources in the JD (U) further said that all the 45 legislators would meet at the residence of Kumar who reportedly spoke to Congress’ interim president Sonia Gandhi to resume Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance). The current political development comes on the heels of Kumar’s skipping NITI Ayog Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. The Bihar chief minister said that he could not attend the meeting because of post-Covid-19 complications. Nevertheless, his party blamed the BJP for widening the gap between the two partners in running the government.
