Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the expanded portion of the first phase of Chennai Metro Rail in Tamil Nadu and laid the foundation stone for various projects in different areas including railways.
In a grand ceremony at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Modi inaugurated the 9.01 kilometer long section of the metro connecting Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar in North Chennai. The project has cost Rs 3,770 crore.
Prime Minister Modi dedicated to the nation the electrification of Chennai Beach Attipattu’s fourth line and Villupur’s Mailaduthurai Thanjavur / Mailaduthurai Tiruvur single rail line. He also laid the foundation stone for a Discovery Campus at IIT Madras, which will be constructed in the first phase in the nearby theater at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore. The campus will be constructed in an area of two lakh square kilometers.
