Yogi Eases Covid Violation Norms; Withdraws Cases

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, ordered the withdrawal of all proceedings brought in the state under the Pandemic Act for violations of Covid-19 containment rules on Sunday, claiming that it was in the public good.

He also demanded a list of contaminated police officers, such as those involved in illegal operations or with a lousy service record, claiming to suffer harsh punishment. During a Covid-19 review meeting on Sunday, Yogi requested the home department follow both orders.

According to Yogi, the state has provided a total of 100.91 million Covid vaccine shots so far, with 31 districts reporting no active cases of illness and 21 districts reporting only one active case each. In the 173,000 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, 66 districts reported no new instances of Covid-19, while the remaining nine districts reported a total of 13 cases. There are presently 159 ongoing Covid cases in the state.

The chief minister’s order to identify corrupt cops comes in the wake of the shocking case of a Kanpur businessman’s suspected murder in Gorakhpur by a bunch of cops. The state’s police force has been widely chastised as a result of the incident.

In a similar event on Saturday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanded an explanation from 31 district magistrates (DM) and 24 district police heads, who were discovered absent from their offices or public hearing programmes, according to a news agency.

The chief minister, who conducted a review meeting with senior officials on Saturday, cautioned that stern action would be taken if a similar situation arose again.
