As the coronavirus cases in Mumbai are going upwards, the city recorded 6,347 fresh cases as per the municipality statement. Of these new cases, around 5,712 cases are asymptomatic, which may mean that the Omicron variant spread faster without leading to extreme illness. On Friday, Mumbai reported less than 6,000 cases and on Thursday, the tally was less than 4,000 cases. The COVID-19 situation of Maharashtra has been quite up as compared to other states. Health minister Rajesh Tope said that there are no discussions about a lockdown at present among the state government officials.

The state government will likely come up with the limitations on the COVID-19 situation after considering the case positivity rate, hospital bed occupancy, and oxygen consumption. There have been quite reports about the lockdown in the state as more than 10 ministers and over 20 MLAs have tested positive for coronavirus. As everyone wants to celebrate the festival quite well and even their special days, birthdays and other occasions, the new variant Omicron is spreading faster and thus, people need to take the required caution.

After the appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to slow down, some states have put up night curfew restrictions. Cases are quite rising in Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra. If you are planning to visit your near and dear ones during this New Year 2022 weekend, it is important that you cover your nose and mouth with a mask, maintain social distancing and avoid going to crowded places. It is always better to stay safe than feel sorry.
