Govt. decided to set up the Prime Minister’s Health Protection Fund

New Delhi: The government has decided to set up the Prime Minister’s Health Protection Fund, which will be made up of health and education cess, to give a strong foundation to health security. The proposal to this effect was approved in the cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister’s Health Protection Fund will contain the amount of health and education cess received under Section 136-B of the Finance Act 2007 and it will be a non-forfeiture fund. The fund will be used on the flagship scheme of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Ayushman Bharat- Health and Health Center and National Health Mission etc. With this decision of the government, funds will be raised for health services and services will be made available in remote areas.
