Washington: The case of death in the custody of black citizen George Floyd in the US continues to grow. Amid the protests, some people have vandalise the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC. The police have started an investigation against those who broke the Gandhi statue. The United States has expressed regret over this act of the protesters and has also apologized to India.

The Indian embassy had raised the issue of vandalising the statue of Mahatma Gandhi with the US. The Indian embassy has also filed a complaint with the Metropolitan Police. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on September 30, 2014 in Washington DC. US Defence Minister Mark Asper has come under criticism for calling the streets full of protesters the army’s ‘battle ground’. They are being accused of failing to keep the army away from politics. Espar on Wednesday distanced himself from Trump’s warnings of using the military to fully suppress street protests. The president had indicated that if the state governor could not stop the violence, he would use all available military forces. However, Espar on Wednesday changed the Pentagon’s decision to send hundreds of soldiers on duty from the Washington area home.
