Politics17 parties voice concern over impact of SC verdict on PMLA Act

New Delhi: As many as17 opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have voiced concern over the future impact of the Supreme Court verdict upholding amendments to the Money Laundering Act and called for a review. In a joint statement, the leaders of those parties said that the judgment would strengthen the government that targets its opponents. They said that because of its long-term impact the verdict should be short-lived and that they always respect the apex court and hold it in high esteem.

They said, “Yet, we are compelled to point out that the judgment should have awaited the verdict of a larger bench for examining the constitutionality of the Finance Act route to carry out the amendments.” The political parties which signed the statement are the TMC, the DMK, the AAP, the NCP, the Shiv Sena, the CPIM, the CPI, the IUML, the RSP, the MKMK, the RJD and the RLD. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh shared the statement on twitter. The statement came on the heels of raids conducted at the National Herald House.
