Patna (Bihar)/Jaunpur (UP): The Janata Dal-United (JD-U) has set to bolster its base in Uttar Pradesh before the general elections in 2024, sources said on Thursday. The party has begun to focus on the eastern UP districts adjacent to the Bihar border. Meanwhile, the JD(U) leadership has appointed a former Member of Parliament from Jaunpur from Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, Dhananjay Singh, as the national general secretary of the party. Singh contested assembly election from Malhani seat in Jaunpur in 2022 but lost. His wife Srikala Reddy is the Zila Panchayat chairman in Jaunpur.

 Singh said that his party would contest Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh this time and that it would soon identify the seats and the candidates. According to him, the party will go to polls with full preparedness.
