If you are Delhite or plan to visit Delhi for your next vacation, you must visit Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. It’s not just a religious place, you can find much more interesting things that captivate your mood.

This golden domed gurudwara is located on ‘Baba Kharag Singh Marg’, close to Connaught Place, and is frequented by people of all religions, races, and nations. The major gurudwara, the Sarovar, the Yatri Niwas, and a school are all located here. Intriguingly, one hospital, one museum, and one art gallery are all located in the basement. It’s a perfect place to heal your mood, to find peace and to connect yourself with the divine. 

This Gurudwara is prominently famous for sikh pilgrimage and true social works as here you can find free hospitality services. The Langur of this Gurudwara is widely known, the Gurudwara committee provides free meals (langar) to the public. Moreover, the architecture of this place is extremely captivating. 

In the centre of the Bangla Sahib, there’s a pond where you can find a variety of fishes and the water of the tank is considered holy to bathe and people pray there. 

History of Bangla Sahib Gurudwara 

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, previously Raja Jai Singh’s bungalow-sized house, was dubbed ‘Jaisinghpura Palace’ by the locals. His house was later transformed into a gurdwara. As an homage, it was named Guru Harkishan Sahib, the eighth Sikh Guru. For all Sikh worshippers, it is a key pilgrimage location.

Things to keep in mind before visiting this gurdwara 

  • When entering the gurdwara, keep your head covered with a scarf, dupatta, saree-pallu, or handkerchief.
  • On the gurdwara campus, shoes are not permitted. Place them on a shoe rack near the entrance of the shoe shop.
  • Put on clothing that isn’t ostensibly exposing or indecent.
  • Within the gurdwara, photography is prohibited.
  • When going inside, keep the noise to a minimum.
  • Maintain vigilance and safeguard your personal belongings.
