New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has issued guidelines today for opening schools since October 15 under Unlock 5. In order to open schools in a phased manner, the ministry has asked the states and union territories to ensure the necessary standards for health, hygiene and safety. Apart from this, instructions have been given to ensure social distancing during studies.

The Ministry of Education has said in its guidelines that children will be able to go to school only after the written permission of their parents. There will be relaxation in the rules of attendance imperative and children can choose to study online if they want. Apart from this, standard instructions will be followed in making mid-day meal and feeding children.

As per the guidelines, the State / UT DoSEL will prepare their SOPs based on the SOPs of the Ministry of Education for health and safety precautions, which may be tailored to the local conditions and needs. The opening schools will have to follow the instructions prepared by the education department of the state / union territories. It has also been said that there will be no assessment for 2-3 weeks after the school opens. ICT and online learning will continue and will be encouraged.
