New Delhi: The seat-sharing in the National Democratic Alliance for the Assam Assembly elections has been decided. According to which the Bharatiya Janata Party will contest 92 seats in the upcoming elections, while its ally Asom Gana Parishad will contest 26 and United People’s Party in eight seats. The agreement was reached after several rounds of negotiations.
The BJP’s Central Election Committee met at its headquarters in New Delhi to decide the names of candidates for the assembly elections. All the committee members including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National President Jagat Prakash Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonawal attended this meeting. The names of the candidates can be announced on Friday.
It may be noted that out of 126 assembly seats in the 2016 assembly elections, BJP contested 84 seats. On the other hand, the Allied Assam Gun Council 24 and the Bodo People’s Front fielded 16 seats. In which BJP won 60 seats, AGP 14 and BPF 12 seats. However, this time the BPF is contesting elections by leaving the BJP and joining the Congress-led grand alliance.
