New Delhi: The Supreme Court has termed the allegations of recovery of Rs 100 crore every month on former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh as serious. On Thursday, the Bombay High Court ordered the CBI inquiry, what is wrong in it, should such cases not be investigated by an independent investigating agency. The court refused to stop or interfere in the investigation, saying that the CBI investigation against Anil Deshmukh will continue.
Earlier, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Deshmukh and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Maharashtra government, also strongly argued during the hearing in the Supreme Court. Sibal argued that an inquiry was ordered based on oral allegations. Where is the evidence in this case.
The case was heard in front of the bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Hemant Gupta. The Supreme Court said, we are not willing to interfere in this matter. The court said that this is a matter of public trust. The investigation of the incidents by independent agency is necessary. The Supreme Court made it clear that there are big figures involved in the allegations and the nature of the allegations is serious. Therefore, an independent inquiry is necessary and both the petitions are dismissed.
The Maharashtra government and former state minister of state Anil Deshmukh had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the CBI probe against Deshmukh. The Bombay High Court, while hearing the petition of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh, was ordered to conduct a preliminary inquiry by CBI against Deshmukh. Now this decision has been challenged by the Maharashtra government in the Supreme Court. The petition has sought the cancellation of the order of the CBI investigation.
Sibal said, I do not speak of the government, I say that Parambir Singh has only spoken in his charge, he has not presented any evidence. There is not a single proof, when did it happen, what happened? First, there should be a matter of proof. In the petition filed by Deshmukh, it has been said that the Central Government is making political use of the CBI.
