Anantnag: Three Lashkar terrorists killed in an encounter

Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on Tuesday in Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir.

A police spokesperson said that on the basis of intelligence reports of the presence of the militants, the National Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force and special operations group of police launched a joint siege and search operation in the forested areas of Valu Kokernag, about 30 km from Anantnag in the morning. After sealing all the evacuation sites in Valu, the security forces were moving towards the targeted area, when the terrorists hiding there started indiscriminate firing. Security forces retaliated and opened fire. Three militants were killed in an encounter between the two sides.

The dead terrorists have been identified as Ilyas Ahmed Dar alias Sameer, Ubaid Shafi alias Abdullah and Aqib Ahmed Lone alias Sahil.

He said that according to police records, the three terrorists were associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba group and were among those who carried out several attacks on security forces and security establishments. Weapons including an AK-47 rifle, two pistols and explosives were also recovered from the encounter site.
