SAD and BSP combine after 25 years in Punjab, will contest elections together

New Delhi: Shiromani Akali Dal has tied up with Bahujan Samaj Party for next year’s Punjab Assembly elections. Announcing the alliance, Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal said that this is a new day in the politics of Punjab. The Akali Dal broke the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last year over the new agricultural laws of the central government. Bahujan Samaj Party will contest on 20 seats in Punjab.

At the same time, expressing happiness over the alliance, Shiromani Akali Dal MLA NK Sharma said in Chandigarh that SAD and BSP together will win a big victory in the next elections.

Akali Dal and BSP are coming together again after 25 years of 1996 Lok Sabha elections. In the 1996 general elections, this alliance won 11 out of 13 seats in Punjab. BSP won all three seats and Akali Dal won 8 out of 10 seats in the election.
