Hassan Askari, the son of Maj Gen (R) Zafar Mehdi Askari, was found guilty of treason by a military court for his criticism of the Pakistan Army chief‘s extension. Askari is a computer engineer who penned the letter in September of last year, according to reports. According to The News, at a trial held in July this year, Askari was defended by an officer delegated by the Pakistan military court.

The matter was taken up by the Islamabad high court in January, which ordered the treason trial to be held in secret. However, the trial and punishment were not publicly announced. The information was revealed in a petition filed by the convict’s father with the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court recently.
